Experience the wonderful scenery and geological history of this photographers’ paradise!
Dates: 17-20 November 2017 (4 days / 3 nights)
Cost: £950 per person (single rooms): this includes all tuition, breakfast, dinner, transport during the course and accommodation, but excludes alcohol, insurance, lunches and travel to and from our base location in the Wareham area
The Jurassic Coast was England’s first natural World Heritage Site. It covers 95 miles of coastline from East Devon to Dorset and displays 185 million years of the Earth’s history: the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods (respectively 250-200, 200-145 and 145-65 million years ago).
Spectacular photographic opportunities extend the full range of the Coast, from Orcombe Point in the west to Old Harry Rocks in the east, with the iconic Durdle Door perhaps being the best known. There are also superb man-made features, including Corfe Castle and Portland Bill Lighthouse.
The best time of year to photograph this south facing coast is in the winter, from November to March, as this is when the winter sun catches the south facing cliffs twice a day (due to the position of the earth in its orbit around the sun and the tilt of the earth’s axis at this time of year).
On this weekend we will be exploring key locations at the eastern end of the Coast as well as the magnificent ruins of Corfe Castle.
We will be staying in a spa hotel in the Wareham area. Kimmeridge, Studland, Old Harry Rocks, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are all within easy reach. These locations are a real delight to photograph, particularly at this time of year.
Purpose & Format
The aim of the weekend is very much to help you develop your own creative vision and hone the skills to make that vision a reality.
On this course you will learn how to take beautiful landscape pictures and how to realize your photographic vision through previsualisation and solid camera technique. We will also cover some of the basics of digital image processing using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
When you have booked your trip Adriaan will contact you to discuss your level of photographic experience, your objectives for the weekend and what equipment may be useful to bring along.
Over the weekend Adriaan will be on hand to provide advice on location (if and when required), and you will also have the option to participate in photography feedback sessions. During these sessions he can provide one-to-one support to address any areas of difficulty or uncertainty, to advise on composition, etc.
The cost of the 4 day / 3 night photography course is £950 per person (all single room accommodation) — this includes all tuition, breakfast, dinner, transport during the course and accommodation, but excludes alcohol, insurance, lunches and travel to and from our base location in the Wareham area.
Places are limited to eight (8) participants per course so early booking is recommended. Non-photography partners are welcome at a reduced rate; please contact Adriaan for details and availability.
All tuition will be in English.
Exertion Level & Weather Conditions
Moderate — The course will involve a degree of walking with some of it on beaches and some of it uphill. However, many locations are easily accessible from nearby car parks so we can cater to the fitness levels of different participants to some extent.
You will need to be prepared for bad weather (for yourself and your camera) as this often provides the best conditions for landscape photography.
Contact Adriaan if you have any questions about the weekend.
