Dates: 15-18 August & 18-21 August 2015 (2 sessions, 3 nights each)
Cost: £750 per person sharing (£150 single supplement) with a £190 non-refundable deposit payable upon booking: this includes all tuition, meals, transport during the course and accommodation, but excludes alcohol, insurance and travel to and from our base location in Lowick
The light in Northumberland often assumes an ethereal quality: the kind of soft, warm, golden light that photographers dream of. Combine this with the fact that the county’s turbulent history has left a range of wonderful castles and ruins in its wake; that there is often great drama in the skies around the coast; and that everyday human activity in the area often creates photographic subjects of interest, and it is easy to see why Northumberland is a paradise for photographers.
We will be staying in a comfortable, stone-built, self-catering cottage in the heart of Lowick, which is very well located for Holy Island (with Lindisfarne Castle, interesting harbour and the Priory ruins), Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Bamburgh Castle and other coastal locations. There are shops and a couple of very good pubs within easy walking distance.
The aim of the weekend is very much to help you develop your own creative vision and hone the skills to make that vision a reality.
When you have booked your trip Adriaan will contact you to discuss your level of photographic experience, your objectives for the weekend and what equipment may be useful to bring along.
Over the weekend Adriaan will provide photographic briefing sessions and will be on hand to provide advice on location (if and when required). You will also have the option to participate in photography feedback sessions. During these sessions Adriaan can provide one-to-one support to address any areas of difficulty or uncertainty, to advise on composition, etc.
The cost of each 3 night photography course is £750 per person sharing (£150 single supplement) — this includes all tuition, meals, transport during the course and accommodation, but excludes alcohol, insurance and travel to and from our base location in Lowick.
A non-refundable deposit of £190 is payable at the time of booking with the balance due 12 weeks before the workshop.
The course is run by Adriaan in conjunction with Peter Goodwin of Travel Counsellors Ltd (a doubly-bonded company), which means that your money is fully protected in the unlikely event that anything goes wrong. Alongside ATOL protection, Travel Counsellors Ltd operate a unique Travel Counsellors Trust which protects every single element of your booking. That’s peace of mind you don’t get elsewhere! Find out more.
Places are limited to four (4) participants per course so early booking is recommended. A couple of places are available for (non-photography) partners at a reduced rate of £350; please contact Adriaan for details and availability.
All tuition will be in English.
Moderate — The course will involve a degree of walking with some of it on beaches and some of it possibly uphill. However, many locations are easily accessible from nearby car parks so we can cater to the fitness levels of different participants to some extent.
You will need to be prepared for bad weather (for yourself and your camera) as this often provides the best conditions for landscape photography.
You will also need to prepared for early morning starts and late evenings: sunrise at this time of year is around 05:40 and sunset is at around 20:40.
Contact Adriaan if you have any questions about the weekend or book now.
